The Chinese factory has offered the same electric scissor lift with either a standard lead-acid battery or a higher-priced lithium package. The relevant question is not which chemistry sounds more advanced but whether the complete upgrade resolves an actual operating constraint and recovers its price premium.

1. Compare complete battery systems
On a published 1012E specification, lead-acid is listed as 24V/220Ah and lithium as 25.6V/200Ah. Ampere-hours alone cannot establish useful runtime across these systems: chemistry, usable discharge range, test conditions, charger and machine energy demand matter. Obtain comparable working-cycle and charging information rather than an unsupported “eight-hour” claim.
2. Identify a genuine operational constraint
A unit that works a short shift and charges overnight may gain no economic benefit from faster charging. Rental operators with verified lost bookings due to charging constraints should calculate incremental paid use. Different lead-acid types also have different maintenance requirements; lithium is not maintenance-free.
3. Four-year cost example: assumptions, not market quotes
Assume the complete lead-acid machine costs USD10,000 and the lithium alternative USD11,200. Annual battery-related maintenance is assumed at USD160 and USD60 respectively. Over four years the compared costs are USD10,640 and USD11,440: lithium costs USD800 more after USD400 maintenance savings. Electricity, replacement batteries, finance, tax and disposal are excluded until supported by evidence.
4. Calculate the needed break-even benefit
The remaining USD800 premium divided by four years is USD200 per year. If each additional rental day yields USD100 of incremental net cash contribution, the lithium version must genuinely enable two extra paid days per year. Faster charging is not itself an extra sale: check lost orders and availability records before forecasting that benefit.
5. Confirm the quotation covers an approved system
Request compatible battery, charger, necessary management system and control integration, input power, manufacturer-approved configuration, warranty, replacement parts, price difference and delivery date. An “additional USD800 for lithium” statement may omit components needed for a usable delivery.
