The Canton Fair is much bigger than construction machinery. Its three phases cover everything from industrial equipment and electronics to home products, textiles and consumer goods. That breadth is part of the appeal: overseas buyers can meet a wide range of Chinese suppliers in one city and, in the machinery halls, see equipment before discussing a deal.
For a buyer looking for a scissor lift, boom lift or other construction equipment, the most useful questions are simple: when should I go, what can I inspect, and is a show offer worth accepting?
Which dates matter for machinery buyers?
The 140th China Import and Export Fair (autumn 2026) takes place at the Canton Fair Complex, 382 Yuejiang Middle Road, Haizhu District, Guangzhou. The official Canton Fair site lists:
| Phase | Dates | Main focus |
|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | 15–19 October 2026 | Advanced manufacturing: machinery, industrial equipment, vehicles, electronics and tools |
| Phase 2 | 23–27 October 2026 | Home furnishings, building materials and household products |
| Phase 3 | 31 October–4 November 2026 | Textiles, apparel, luggage, toys, health and lifestyle products |
Construction-machinery buyers should focus on Phase 1. Search the official exhibitor/product directory before travelling, then check the current hall plan and whether your target machine will actually be on display.
Why the machinery section deserves attention
Unlike specialist heavy-equipment shows, the Canton Fair serves exporters across many industries. You may encounter established manufacturers alongside smaller, export-oriented suppliers offering more focused product ranges and competitive quotations.
Avoid a tempting oversimplification: it is not true that every major Chinese machinery brand stays away from the Canton Fair. Exhibitor lists vary by edition, and large firms may attend. Nor should an unfamiliar logo be read as poor quality. The fair gives you the chance to compare actual machines and speak to the people quoting them.
What can you check at a scissor-lift stand?
A show-floor inspection is useful, but it is not a factory acceptance test. Ask first whether the exhibited machine is the same specification as the quoted one.
| Check at the stand | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Nameplate and model | Manufacturer, exact model, displayed version |
| Scissor structure and assembly | Accessible welds, joints, pins and obvious defects |
| Hydraulics | Hose routing, fittings and visible leaks |
| Battery and charger | Installed model and electrical specification |
| Controls and demonstration | What functions the exhibitor actually demonstrated |
| Documents | Product sheet, manual, parts support and destination-specific files |
Let trained booth staff operate the machine under the applicable procedure. A short lift-and-lower demonstration does not verify every safety function. Get written confirmation of any standard versus optional component shown on the display model.
Are Canton Fair discounts real?
Some exhibitors offer time-limited order prices, added accessories or special pricing on display units. Such offers can be worth taking seriously; there is no reason to postpone a sound purchase just for the sake of waiting. But neither an “exhibition price” label nor a verbal discount proves that a machine is cheaper than an equivalent regular quotation.
Compare the same model, configuration, delivery point, warranty and payment conditions. Ask whether the offer is for a new factory-built unit or the exact display machine. If it is the display unit, document its serial number, condition, demonstration hours if known, available certifications, handover date and who arranges collection after the fair.
| Before committing | Written confirmation to obtain |
|---|---|
| Machine | Exact model, configuration, quantity; display-unit identity if relevant |
| Price | Currency, quote validity, exactly what the discount covers |
| Delivery | Incoterms® rule, named place and availability date |
| Documentation | Which destination-required documents will be supplied |
| Warranty/payment | Coverage, payment milestones and verified payee |
If these conditions are settled and the price is attractive, ordering at the fair can be entirely sensible. If a critical condition is unresolved, ask for a written quotation that holds the offer until it is checked. A deadline should focus a decision, not replace it.
First visit: registration, access and transport
Register before travelling. The fair’s official buyer-badge guide for the 140th edition says new applications and replacements are free. First-time overseas buyers should normally prepare their original valid ID (such as a passport), business card and pre-registration QR-code receipt. Existing valid overseas buyer badges can be reused subject to the official rules. Check visa or visa-free entry separately: a fair invitation is not a Chinese visa.
The complex is in Pazhou, Guangzhou. Metro Line 8 serves Xingangdong and Pazhou stations; confirm the best entrance for your assigned halls. Book accommodation around workable metro connections rather than judging only by distance on a map.
Before arriving, use the official exhibitor directory to shortlist machinery suppliers and ask whether they will display a scissor lift, boom lift or spider lift of the type you need. For a serious equipment purchase, arrange meetings in advance.
A focused way to visit the machinery halls
If you are sourcing a 12 m electric scissor lift, visit at least three relevant exhibitors and ask each to quote the same requirement. Verify working versus platform height, rated load, drive system, batteries, documentation and destination before comparing prices. For boom or spider lifts, ask for the relevant reach chart and load zones.
Leave with three things: the exact machine specification, a traceable written quotation and a verified business contact. A pile of brochures is much less useful. For a large or customised order, consider a later factory visit or independent verification; a fair booth cannot establish the whole company’s manufacturing capability.
The fair’s advantage is concentration: several suppliers, real machines and direct commercial discussions in a few days. A good show offer is worth acting on once the machine, seller and delivery conditions are clear.
After the fair: where Levantis fits
If you have shortlisted aerial-platform suppliers at the Canton Fair, Levantis can help compare quotations and configurations, clarify which claims still require evidence, and coordinate appropriate follow-up checks before shipment. Bring the exact model, quotation and destination information rather than relying on a booth conversation alone.
